Do you wish you were a morning person, but waking up early feels impossible and even if you have tried starting to get up earlier, you always fall back to your old habits? In that case, you need my tips on how to become a morning person (and love it, which I guarantee is totally possible).

I myself used to go to sleep really late and because of that, I also got up quite late. Since then, I have changed my habits and become a morning person. It has a lot of benefits: I have more energy, I am happier and I get a lot more done. Also, I have that good feeling of having my life together. It’s also easier to fall asleep in the evening and to stick to routines. In other words, my life is much better altogether.

It’s also good to keep in mind that the most successful people you know, such as Michelle Obama and Richard Branson, get up very early. Starting your day early helps you be more productive, which in turn can make you successful.

You can become a morning person yourself by following my tips. You will love mornings after implementing these changes!

Why is it so hard to be a morning person?

The mistake most people make is that they believe being a morning person is simply something innate as in you are either an early bird or a night owl and that’s all there is to it. If you hold on to this belief, it can be very hard to change.

Also, when people try to change their habits, they often do so without a proper plan and get discouraged when things don’t magically work out right away. If you decide to become a morning person and simply set your alarm to 5 am the next day, it’s definitely not going to work. Instead, you will be extremely tired all day and you won’t see any benefits.

In other words, it’s hard to become a morning person if you do it all wrong. But if you do it right, your life can change in a matter of days!

Can you train yourself to become a morning person?

Most definitely! It all comes down to habits and keeping your goals and what benefits you in mind. As said, you have to make a plan, or else it won’t work.

Some people find getting up early easier than others, but that doesn’t mean that you couldn’t start getting up earlier and enjoy your mornings well-rested. Trust me, I’ve made this change myself. What you have to do, is to follow my tips and then stick to your plan, even if you sometimes feel like staying up really late watching Netflix or reading a book. It’s all about consistency!

1. Choose when you want to start waking up

The first thing you have to do to become a morning person is to choose when you want to take up. Just because other people wake up at 6 am doesn’t mean that that’s the right time for you to wake up.

If you have a lot to do in the morning or you want to get a lot of work done, you might want to start getting up very early, like 4.30 am.

But if you only want to have a bit more time to get ready in the morning and maybe go for a short walk, 6.30 am might be a good choice for you.

2. What do you want to be able to do in the morning

Ask yourself what exactly you want to do in the morning. I have a lot of ideas for productive mornings, but you might have specific things in mind that you want to get done before you go to work.

If you have a side hustle or something else that you are working on, it might be a good idea to schedule an hour or two just for that. The first hours of the day are the best in terms of productivity, so you definitely want to take advantage of them!

On the other hand, if you simply wish you had more time to read but you never seem to find the time for it, how about you schedule some time in the mornings just to read in peace?

3. Do something that makes you happy

If your mornings are so busy and full of work that you don’t have a minute for yourself, you might start to resent mornings. Then it’s going to be very hard to become a morning person!

Try to add something fun to your morning routine, even if it’s only for 15 minutes or so. This way you feel that you are in control of your life and getting up feels good.

You can for example read a book for a while, watch your favorite TV show or go outside for a walk, or just sit in the garden. Or maybe you enjoy simply drinking your morning coffee in peace and quiet.

4. Get some work done

Ok, this might not be as much fun, but it is important if you want to be that productive morning person and level up your life. The first hours of your day are without a doubt the best for productivity and getting the hardest things done. Because it’s still early, you are not tired yet (assuming you didn’t go to sleep late) and there aren’t as many distractions as later on in the day.

Try to get an hour or two of work done and then take a break or go to your day job, if you were working on your side hustle. You will definitely feel motivated and productive at that point!

5. Eat a good breakfast

I can’t stress this enough, because this will make all the difference. Eat a proper, healthy breakfast in peace and you will have much more energy until lunch. There’s no need to feel sluggish, you just have to take good care of yourself.

If you are someone who really doesn’t like eating breakfast, try eating a bit later after waking up and see if you would have more appetite by switching the normal breakfast foods to something else. Maybe a warm soup or a delicious croissant?

Try to eat at least something because otherwise you simply won’t have enough energy till lunch.

6. Prepare the night before

Leaving everything from picking an outfit to trying to decide what lunch to take to work till the morning can make you stressed (and possibly late).

Make your mornings easier by doing something beforehand, so that you don’t have to hurry too much in the morning and you can focus on doing the things that are important to you, whether it’s reading or exercising. You can also meal prep on Sundays so that you don’t have to worry about lunches (or breakfasts) all week.

7. Start implementing changes slowly

Changing your habits takes time and you don’t need to change them overnight. Simply decide when you want to start waking up and what you want to do in the mornings and then take small steps towards becoming a morning person.

Try to go to sleep a little bit earlier every night. That way you can slowly start waking up earlier and you’ll have more time to do everything you want. If you sometimes sleep late or simply can’t fall asleep early enough, don’t worry. It’s all about consistency and a day or two here or there doesn’t mean that you can’t do it.
