8 August Goals That Will Increase Your Courage
Want to know why you need to set August goals? Well, let me ask you this: do you feel like time is flying too fast now that it’s summer? It’s a common problem: at the beginning of summer, you’re excited and go out every day, even just to walk around for a while.
But after a while, those green trees and the warm weather lose their novelty and you start spending more and more time inside. To change that, you can set a goal to go out every day, at least for a little while.
And to get the most out of this month, you should set some August goals for yourself. This month’s theme is courage and all of the following monthly goal ideas help you build your courage in one way or another.
If you want to stop holding yourself back and start being your true self, you need these goals. Pick the ones that resonate with you the most and make a plan that will help you stick to them this August.
1. Speak louder
If you happen to be shy or simply don’t feel confident around other people, you might have a habit of speaking too quietly, at least when you’re around people you don’t know very well.
Speaking louder makes you both feel and seem more confident, so it’s definitely worth it to work on this. So, set yourself a goal to speak louder this month. Practice speaking in a clear, confident voice that everyone can hear. This will come in handy when you have to speak in a bigger group or for example if you’ll ever give a speech.
Never feel like what you’re saying doesn’t matter or that people don’t want to listen to you. You have a voice and you have every right to use it.
2. Go on a solo trip
Summer is definitely the best time of the year to travel. And while it’s fun to travel with friends and family, everyone should travel solo at least a couple of times in their life. If you’re ready for a little adventure, book a solo trip this month and get ready for an unforgettable experience!
If you’re not feeling very confident traveling alone yet, you can go somewhere safe and easy, like London or Dublin. London is my favorite city in the world, if you’ve never been there, you should definitely go visit!
And of course, if you’re a more adventurous traveler, you can go anywhere in the world you like. Maybe there’s a place you’ve always wanted to visit, but haven’t had the courage yet? Now is your chance!
3. Try a new style
Do you feel like you’re always wearing the same old clothes, but secretly you wish you had the courage to wear completely different clothes?
You’re allowed to wear any clothes you like! Set a goal for this August to find new clothes that are a little different from what you usually wear. It doesn’t really even matter if it turns out that they’re not 100% you. You’ll have a better idea of what you like and at least you can wear those clothes at home.
It’s Quiz Time!
If you’ve spent hours on BuzzFeed trying to find out which Gilmore Girl or fruit you are, how about you take my quizzes to learn what kind of future awaits you?

4. Start a Youtube channel
Have you always dreamed of starting your own Youtube channel, but you still haven’t done it? If so, why not make that dream come true this month?
You don’t necessarily need fancy equipment and it’s more than ok if your first videos aren’t huge hits. Figuring out how a new platform works and how to create content that people love always takes a lot of time and effort.
You can start filming with your phone and upgrade your equipment as you get a better idea of what you need and what you want to do.
5. Reach out to people 10 times this month
I think a lot of people find it hard to reach out to people. Whether you want to send a message to an old friend you haven’t heard from in a while or you want to reach out to someone you simply find interesting, now is the time to act.
People often like to hear from old friends and starting a conversation with a new acquaintance or a colleague can lead to a real friendship.
Sending messages to people can be scary though, but that’s something you can practice. A great August goal to set is to message or call 10 different people this month. Every time you do this, it becomes a little bit easier.
From my own experience, I can say that while not every message necessarily leads to anything, I never regret sending them. If you don’t hear back from someone, then at least you’ll know that they’re not a match. And that’s all right.
6. Send applications to jobs you likely won’t get
Do you wish you had a better job, but you feel like you’re not good enough for almost any job out there? It’s a common feeling and it doesn’t help to hear about people who are stuck in awful jobs for years or who can’t get any job at all.
But you’re not them and the only person you need to worry about is yourself. You’re likely much more capable and have much more potential than you even realize. This month, send applications to jobs you would like to get, even if you feel like you probably won’t get them.
There’s always a chance that they’ll get back to you, either to invite you to an interview or ask if you would be interested in a different job. And it never hurts to practice writing better job applications.
7. Always say what you think
Now I’m not telling you to be impolite, but generally speaking, it’s a good idea to say what you think and not worry too much about what other people think of you. It’s especially hard to be yourself when you are young, but you can always challenge yourself to act a bit more confident and start saying what you think.
Perhaps you a prone to hiding your interests or agreeing to everyone else’s suggestions, whether it comes to lunch or a movie. But your thoughts and opinions matter too. If you want to eat sushi when others want pizza, say it. If you don’t want to do something (even when everyone else in the world does), say it.
Set a goal for yourself to not hide your true feelings this month, even if others think you’re weird. Because you’re really not weird, you have every right to have your own tastes and opinions.
8. Post more personal Instagram stories
It’s not easy to put yourself out there, especially in front of your friends and family. You might feel pressured to only post content that looks perfect and makes your life seem amazing. And while that’s all good, posting more genuine content can be empowering for you and more interesting to your followers.
This month, post more content that you want to post for real, even if it’s not perfect. Nothing bad will happen.
You can of course also post on Facebook or Twitter or somewhere else, but the beauty of Instagram stories is that they only last for 24 hours and no one else can know what others thought about your content. So just go for it!

Setting August goals to boost your courage can change more than just this month. It can change your life. Building courage and confidence is definitely not easy, but it can be empowering. And taking chances and choosing to do things that take courage can be a lot of fun too.
I have literally never regretted doing something that requires courage. It’s the scary things that often make the biggest difference. And every time you choose to have courage and do something scary, it becomes easier to do it the next time.
Let me know which August goals you are going to set and why. I’d love to know!
