Setting monthly goals is great for personal growth and working for your ultimate goals. You can get a lot done in a month if you are committed and don’t let yourself slip. If you have a strong growth mindset and big dreams, you have to set goals for yourself. In this post, you’ll get some great monthly goal ideas that will for sure take you to the next level in life.

Committing to something for 30 days can sound intimidating, but I assure you time will go by fast. Additionally, sticking to your goal will get a little bit easier every single day. Some people say that it takes 21 days to learn a new habit, although that’s not necessarily true. But what for sure is true, is that if you practice your new goal for a month, you’re that much more likely to stick with it.

As you work on your personal development and try to change your life for the better, you have to constantly review your progress and ask yourself if what you’re doing is helping you. Sometimes you notice that a new habit really isn’t making much of a difference in your life. That’s when it’s better to switch to doing something else.

30 days is a good amount of time to see if your new habit is working for you. If you think it is beneficial, keep doing it. And don’t feel like you have to do it forever just because we call them habits. You can for example decide that you’ll read every day for an hour, but you’ll only do it for three months. That will definitely benefit you (you can read and learn a lot in 90 hours), but you don’t feel like you’re chained to the habit.

How to set monthly goals

It’s important that you only set goals that you think are a good fit for you and that you think you can stick to. If you already know that you will be super busy next month, it doesn’t make any sense to start learning Japanese now, even if all the language learning apps out there are saying that you only need to spend 15 minutes a day studying.

Choose your goals wisely and make sure they support your growth and your ultimate goals (such as getting your dream job or becoming more confident). If you simply want to start drinking more water because it’s good for you, you can of course do that. But to get ahead in life, you have to make conscious choices about each action you take and each change you make.

Once you’ve chosen which goals to set, you need to do a little planning. How often will you do the activity? At what time of the day? What counts as completing the task? What will you do if one day you are sick, tired, or super busy? Will you get a reward if you keep up with your goal for 30 days straight?

Once you’ve chosen your goals and you know what exactly you are asking from yourself, it’s time to begin!

Ideas for monthly goals

Go through this list of ideas and pick a couple of monthly goals that you think will help you reach your ultimate goals. Make sure to plan well and to create a habit tracker or add your new habit to your habit tracking app, if it’s something that you are going to do on a daily basis.

1. Complete your daily to-do list every day for a month

If you want to be productive, but have a hard time getting everything done, this is a good goal for you. Challenge yourself to complete your to-do list every single day and I guarantee you that you will be much more productive.

2. Go all in on your dream

Do you have a big dream? In that case, do everything you can for the next thirty days to reach that dream. Maybe you need to send applications, call people, write 2000 words every night, search for information, or something else. You know what to do. You just need the courage to get started.

3. Wake up at 6 am

This may be a distant dream for some, but it’s the perfect goal for you if you want to get more done every day and take advantage of those quiet early hours. If you’re feeling really adventurous, maybe you could even wake up at 5 am.

4. Reach out to a new person every day

If you want to make new friends or get to know people in your field, why not reach out to them? Sending an Instagram or LinkedIn message only takes a few minutes and you never know if it’s the beginning of a lifelong friendship.

5. Start journaling

Journaling is a great way to reflect on your life and motivate yourself to go after your dreams (and your monthly goals). It doesn’t take much time and it’s fun too. If you don’t know what to write about, use journal prompts.

7. Don’t procrastinate

This is easier said than done of course, but if you can do this, your life will change. Any time you feel like you are procrastinating, just force yourself to get back to work.

8. Read for 30 minutes

Reading is very beneficial to you, we all know that. But did you know that it gets easier every day if you simply start doing it? Let yourself enjoy a good book every day and look at yourself learn more without even trying.

9. Study for 1 hour

I believe everyone should keep studying, no matter how many years it’s been since you were in college. If there is anything you’d like to know more about, you should study. History, affiliate marketing, calligraphy, French grammar, it’s your choice.

10. Run 5 times a week

If you want to exercise more, how about you start running? It’s definitely a challenge and chances are you won’t feel like it every day, but that’s exactly what will teach you self-discipline and perseverance. You can start out small; maybe only run for 200 meters your first week and gradually increase the distance from there.

11. Make your bed every day

This is such a simple habit, yet it can make you feel much more accomplished. Make your bed right after you wake up and your bedroom will look nice and tidy and you will have already done something before breakfast.

12. Start a new productive habit every week

This is a great monthly goal for those who want to spend their time better and start getting more done. You can come up with new small habits every week and over time, you’re going to get more and more productive.

13. Don’t check your phone in the morning

Checking your phone right when you wake up is a bad habit that is doing you no good. Instead of picking up your phone, just go get breakfast and get started on what you’re really supposed to do. You can focus on your tasks much better if you keep off your phone until the afternoon.

14. Stay off social media

If you are one of those people who are secretly dreaming of deleting their Facebook account or just throwing their phone out the window, staying off social media for a month can do you wonders. You could get more things done and feel better about yourself.

15. Read 10 books

Reading challenges are great because they are both fun and useful. 10 books in one month can sound like a lot if it’s been a while since you’ve read any books, but it’s definitely worth trying.

16. Listen to educational podcasts every time you’re cooking

You can learn a lot by listening and what better time to listen than when you’re cooking? I like to listen to French, but you can of course choose whatever you are interested in. Maybe Spanish or investing?

17. Do something that scares you every day

Getting out of your comfort zone is one of the best ways to grow and get stronger. Whether you are afraid of public speaking, talking to strangers in a grocery store, or watching a horror movie, doing one scary thing a day will take you far in a month.

18. Use affirmations

Affirmations are fantastic at boosting your confidence. If you have never tried them before, I encourage you to start your day with one or two affirmations for a whole month. Just see how much better you will feel!

19. Choose a new topic to learn about every day

If you love learning, you will love this monthly goal idea. You get to choose a new topic to learn about every single day! Sometimes you might want to choose something really useful and on other days something that is just for fun.

20. Give up your bad habit for 30 days

I bet we all have some bad habits, but how about we try to get rid of them? Choose a bad habit of yours and give it up for a month. Chances are that you won’t want to get back to your old ways after you’ve been doing so well for 30 days. But even if you do, at least you’ll know what kind of a life you’re leaving behind.

21. Do one good deed

If you want to be an extra good person, try doing something good for others every day. Maybe you can help someone who is having a hard time or go donate blood. And on those days you can’t come up with anything to do, you can always give some money to charity.

22. Throw out something you don’t need

If you feel like you own way too many things and you dream of closets and drawers that aren’t full, you can try getting rid of one thing every day. You probably have a lot of old clothes, books, and devices that you no longer have any use for.

23. Keep a diary in a different language

If you are learning a new language, one great way to learn a lot and fast is to keep a diary in that language. You don’t even have to write long entries, 100 words is good for beginners.

24. Go to bed one hour earlier

A lot of people make the mistake of going to bed too late. This means that they are constantly tired and have a hard time getting up in the morning. Start going to sleep an hour earlier than before and enjoy the extra energy.

25. Watch a documentary

Watching documentaries is both interesting and entertaining. You can find plenty of good documentaries on Netflix, but there are also a lot of different documentary channels on Youtube.

26. Network

If it’s really important in your field to know the right people, you’ll want to make a conscious effort to network. You can reach out to people on social media, get to know your colleagues better or go to networking events.

27. Start saving up or investing

Want to have more money? Then start investing. Or at the very least saving. You might be able to save thousands of dollars every year by making some small changes to your habits.

28. Take cold showers

This sounds scary and you will for sure hate the first few cold showers you’ll take. But if you keep going, you might notice some benefits, and at the very least you’re practicing pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.

29. Declutter your social media

If you follow a lot of people that don’t make you feel good or inspire you to go after your dreams, you should do some decluttering. Unfollow every account that doesn’t make you feel better or teach you something valuable.

30. Start volunteering

Volunteering is a great way to do something good and advance your career at the same time. Set a goal of trying out different volunteer opportunities for a month and then continue the ones that fit you the best.
