Why You Need Cocoon Mode to Level Up Your Life

Alright, my dearest readers, this time I’m talking about a super useful concept called cocoon mode. This is something that can help you gain clarity and level up your life, and it can also be a period of healing and relaxation.

I’m sure you’ve heard of many people taking a social media break and how it has benefited them, even in a matter of days. So, why not take things a little further?

What is cocoon mode?

Cocoon mode is a time in your life when you withdraw from the social side of your life and all the mixed influences that come with it. Limiting social media use is paramount because it’s such a time sink, it often creates negative emotions, adds unnecessary pressure, and (although this is rarely talked about), can completely warp your idea of what are the right goals for you.

But it’s not just social media use that you need to put on pause. You want to isolate yourself enough from the world to be able to hear your inner voice and figure out who you really are and what you actually want from life. You don’t want to be influenced by the outside world during this time. This means restricting real-life social interactions too.

As always, changing your life of course comes down to action. Cocoon mode isn’t just about sitting alone at home feeling things. It’s about working on your personal growth and actually doing things that help you go forward. It’s not just about finding a couple of answers, but literally transforming yourself, so that you can come out of it better and stronger than before.

What do you do in cocoon mode?

So, in cocoon mode, you enter a stage in your life where you focus on listening to your own thoughts and doing things that help you reach the next level in your journey, be it by reading books, hiking, or anything else that helps you get forward.

The important thing is to spend time by yourself so that you are not influenced by others, and that you have enough time as well as energy to figure out how you can make your life better. Once you start to better understand who you want to be in the future, you can start taking action.

What exactly you should do during this time depends on who you are and what you are looking to achieve. You can journal, go for long walks, read books, go to the gym, manifest, do something artistic, have an afternoon tea break every day, listen to music, or write poems. Whatever feels right for you and helps you understand yourself better.

Traveling is also something that can help you during this time. You could go to your dream city or some lovely little town to put some distance between yourself and your normal life. This will help you gain clarity and understand your life better.

How long should this phase be?

While staying off social media for a few days is always a good idea, cocoon mode requires a longer period of withdrawing from the social side of life. You need time to let go of the external pressure and to start feeling good just by yourself. You want to have your own thoughts and dreams that aren’t influenced by others.

You want to spend at the very least a month in cocoon mode, but you might consider doing this for three or even six months. It might sound scary, but life-changing things often do.

Remember that this isn’t just about passively avoiding Instagram and thinking about life a little. You’re doing things. You’re working on your future. You’re healing. You’re figuring out what matters and what doesn’t. It very literally takes time out of your day.

It’s a good idea to first do this for one month. And if that sounds too intimidating and you feel like you can’t stay offline for that long, try a one-week social media detox first. It’ll show you that you can do this and that time spent away from the internet comes with benefits.

Let’s clarify a few things

Cocoon mode is a term used for a healing phase, but I want to be clear here and say that when I talk about cocoon mode, I mean a phase in your life when you
In other words, it can be anything you want it to be. You need to make it work for you.

Also, even though I’m talking about staying offline here, I’m not saying you shouldn’t answer emails or do things you really have to do. Just make sure that you only spend time on things that you actually need to do and do them as quickly as possible.

The goal of cocoon mode is not to never use social media again or forever maintain distance from your friends and acquaintances. It’s to find yourself and get clarity on what works for you, and who and what you want in your life. Eventually, you can (mindfully) start reintroducing social media and people back into your life.

Time to start planning your cocoon mode!

Normally, you are very much affected by the norms, rules, trends, and opinions of other people, without necessarily even noticing the extent of it. You might not even realize how much time and energy you waste on social media and people who aren’t really your people.

That’s why you need cocoon mode. It gives you new ideas, a better understanding of yourself, new experiences, confidence, clarity, peace, possibly new hobbies or habits. It gives you time to work on what matters and try things you’ve always wanted to try but didn’t because you felt insecure or not ready.

Remember that to change your life, you need to make space for the new. Even though all this might sound a bit too much to ask (especially if you’re normally glued to your phone), venturing a little outside your comfort zone will help you grow. And things tend to be easier than they first seem.

Let me know how you feel about this and what you plan to do during your own cocoon mode!
