What is My Current Situation in Life
Sometimes when you follow someone online, their life looks simple and straightforward. It’s as if they have more time than you do, they have no real problems, and everything from their breakfast to their dentist visits looks more interesting. Of course in reality, this hardly is true. No matter how good your breakfast looks to someone else, to you it’s the same old breakfast you’ve made a thousand times and you’ve seen the same pretty view from your kitchen window more times than you can remember.
That is why I want to share some things about my life. It certainly isn’t glamorous or super interesting every day. But there are many fun moments and those good, mundane moments that make life precious. I often dream of easier and more fun days in the future. At the same time I know, that one day I will look back at these days and miss them. After all, I won’t live in Berlin forever, I won’t have this job forever and I will certainly have responsibilities in the future that I can’t even imagine today! That’s why it is important to appreciate what you have right now.
These days, my life consists of waking up in freezing cold, running around the house trying to get ready for work (without making any noise, to not wake up others), then walking to the subway station before sunrise (and even more freezing cold). On the train and bus I try to avoid getting close to others, while reading e-books on my phone. My work is thankfully pretty easy and the people are nice, so the time at the office is alright. If you don’t count the fact that we are all worried about catching COVID, since there are new cases in the office every week and our employer doesn’t take them seriously.
I do wish hours would pass faster though. At 4.30 pm I can finally rush out and hop on the train back home – again reading the book. At home I do some household chores, try to write a new post for the blog, and prepare for the next day. Scrolling on Instagram and talking with my fiancé doesn’t take long, because there’s so little time! I try to go to bed early so that I won’t have to wake up tired the next day.
There are many things I’m unhappy with and want to change or improve in the coming year. For starters, I do not want to live in the same house anymore. Having messy roommates, mold, cold and very little space is not my idea of a good living situation. Not to mention, at this age I feel it’s time for me and my fiancé to live on our own. Back in Finland we lived in a nice studio and it worked out well. And I certainly don’t want to stay in this job any longer than necessary; it’s not what I got my degree for, it hardly teaches me new skills and while I was lucky to find this job in the middle of a pandemic, I am sure I can do better next year.
In this post I simply wanted to remind you, that while people like to post those fabulous pictures on Instagram and give an image of an enviable life, it isn’t necessarily the whole truth. Certainly, there are lots of people who live in fancier houses and have better jobs than I do, but not everyone “has it all” already. We are making progress, and that’s what matters.
The year 2020 is coming to an end and that leaves some of us with a few well-earned days of rest and spending time with family. No matter what your situation in life is, remember that you deserve some time off. Those days when you do nothing but sleep late and watch your old favorite movies till late at night are just as an important part of your life as those days when you work all day for your dreams. So remember to enjoy the holiday season, even if you can’t celebrate it like before. And then you can start planning your fantastic and efficient year 2021!

Lovely, honest insight in to life
Thank you!
Authenticity is so important and you have it in spades. Thank you for sharing your day with us. I pray you get out of that work/home situation and into something you are excited about sooner than later.
Thank you, Daphne! That’s such a lovely comment. And who knows, maybe things will get a bit better soon – at least summer is coming!
