Guest Post: How to Deal With Stress at the End of Your Work Day
People have thousands and thousands of thoughts that are rushing through their minds every single day. And on average, 80% of these thoughts are negative… That’s why learning how to deal with stress and these negative thoughts is a necessity.
Especially as a solopreneur, you’re responsible for so many areas of your biz, that your to-do list just never ends, right? It’s basically endless, but that doesn’t mean we should never disconnect and take a break from our work.
It’s unhealthy and unsustainable to be consumed by your problems and to-do’s from the moment you wake up until the moment you go to sleep.
Because even though you’re scrolling through your phone or watching something stupid on TV if your mind is still busy and stressed, you aren’t actually present in the moment and your body isn’t able to recharge as much as it needs to, to feel fresh and energized the next day.
That’s why in this blog post, I want to share some tips and techniques about how you can deal with stress, get grounded again, and feel this sense of calmness and presence, even though there are so many things in your life and business you’re dealing with.
5 Ways How To Deal With Stress At The End Of Your Work Day
1. Take a (long) walk
Taking a walk at the end of your workday can be a great way how to deal with stress and anxiety. You get physically out of your working space (in case you’re working from home) which is great for transitioning to your leisure time, while also getting fresh air and moving your body.
Whether you’re going for a walk alone or with your family, it’s such an amazing way to process everything that happened and feels much better when you get home again.
And depending on which coping technique you use (if you prefer just working through problems alone, or you prefer talking about it with someone else), I personally find it really helpful to take the time during these walks to talk with my boyfriend about things that happened and things that affected or stressed me out, and just being able to talk about them and put it into perspective.
2. Make sure you get enough sleep
Getting enough sleep is so important because when you’re sleeping, your mind is actually processing things.
I always envision it as a cleaning lady that is decluttering my mind, putting everything in the right place, and making everything sparkling clean again.
And in that way when you wake up after a good night of sleep, things don’t feel as heavy anymore, you tend to be able to look at problems from a different perspective, and you can start off fresh with a clean slate again.
However, when you don’t get enough sleep in, and you wake up tired and exhausted, the problems you had to deal with yesterday seem even worse today. The cleaning lady didn’t have the time to clean, so everything is still unorganized and messy.
Problems and to-dos seem like a huge mountain because you don’t have the energy to deal with them.
So make sure that you sleep at least seven or eight hours so that you have enough energy and physical and mental bandwidth to deal with your problems.
3. How to deal with stress by meditating
An extra-long meditation session will always do the job.
It doesn’t matter how stressed, busy, or overwhelmed you are, meditation is essential to get present and centered again.
Meditation isn’t about getting rid of thoughts.
It is the practice of focusing deeply on your breath and the different sensations inside your body. It is about training your mind to not get as consumed by your thoughts, but instead every time you notice that your mind is wandering off (which is completely natural by the way) to gently bring the attention back to your body.
So, try to introduce more meditation into your life and have the reflex to tell yourself ‘Ok, I’m definitely in need of an extra-long meditation session’.
Because people tend to skip meditation when they feel they are too busy. When it should be the other way around. The busier you get, the longer you should meditate.
4. How to deal with stress by moving your body
Getting in an intense workout session is a great way to get your frustrations and stress out and basically get your physical energy on the same level as your mental energy.
Because if you think about it, if your mind is going 200 miles an hour, but you’re just sitting still, then it might be difficult to calm yourself down.
So, when you align and match your physical energy with your mental energy, by working out, you can then after your workout session when you lower your physical energy, take the mental energy down as well.
5. Preventing you get too attached in the first place
The 4 first steps I mentioned, such as talking a walk, sleeping, meditating, and working out are more short-term solutions.
And these are definitely helpful, but if you want a long-term solution that will prevent you to get as intensely stressed and anxious about your problems in the first place, you need to work on yourself and get a deep understanding of your stress triggers.
Are there any patterns you notice in certain situations or experiences that always tend to make you feel anxious and just all over the place?
A few common examples:
- when you’re receiving feedback
- when you feel you have failed
- when you’re having a conflict with a team member
- when you’re putting yourself out there
There are so many different reasons that could trigger stress or resistance reactions inside you.
And so in order to get more grounded and avoid that external factors and situations have the power to destabilize you, you need to reflect on why it is that these specific experiences are triggering you the way they do.
Is there a certain event in your childhood that you have repressed? Is there any limiting belief or mind block that keeps showing up in your daily life? Where do you think these come from?

My husband after work go on car wash and he sit in a car and that makes him calm 😂 he bought monthly pass and everyday our car shines! He found his ritual to calm down after stressful days
Great information!
These are awesome ideas. I especially like the walk and the intense workout session especially if you’ve spent most of your day sitting. I always find my mood improves after a walk outside. My struggle is I always find 15 other things to do first and then it never gets done. I’ve started scheduling it into my day and that’s helping. I’m a newbie to meditation and have started with guided meditation in the morning, so far I’m liking it. Whatever helps you lose your thoughts into something else…
