To be productive and reach your goals, you of course have to work hard and keep tackling your to-do list even when you don’t feel like it. But you also need to take care of yourself and make sure you stay in good condition both physically and mentally. A relaxing self-care weekend can help you to stay balanced and productive.

Even if you like to get things done on your days off, take at least some time just for yourself. This way you will have enough energy to work hard when it’s time to work. In this post, I will share with you 16 of my best self-care weekend ideas. Use them to create a self-care weekend that fits your needs. Or why not a self-care Saturday or Sunday!

1. Read

Reading is always a good idea, whether it’s a detective novel, a bunch of magazines, or a biography. Try to find something that you really enjoy and let yourself get lost in the story.

Of course, if you have some extra energy and interest, non-fiction is always a good option and can teach you a lot. The important thing is that you read something that you find interesting.

2. Watch inspiring movies

Movies are fun to watch, but they can also be useful. If you want to be inspired and get ready for the next week ahead, watch some self-improvement movies that are bound to make you feel both motivated and energetic.

Of course, you can also watch some old favorites that are nostalgic or that simply make you feel good.

3. Catch up on sleep

Way too many people sleep too little. That hurts your health and it’s not easy to be productive when you’re tired. Sometimes being sleep-deprived is unavoidable though and in that case, allowing yourself to sleep a little extra on weekends is recommended. And who wouldn’t like peaceful afternoon naps? Take some extra time to sleep or at least lie on your bed and relax.

4. Journal

Journaling is a wonderful way to spend some time just by yourself. You can write about what has happened recently, what you hope will happen in the future, or simply what is in your mind right at that moment.

It’s a good idea to journal if you don’t usually write in a diary. It relaxes you and maybe you will even want to start keeping a diary from then on.

5. Go hiking

Why not go hiking to escape your normal life? If it’s summer, you can go early in the morning to get a completely different experience. Hiking in the forest or in the meadows will refresh your mind and give you energy.

Even better, you can go hiking with your friends to make the experience extra fun.

6. Listen to a lot of music

Music can affect your mood and reduce stress, which is exactly what you need after a long week at work. Take a couple of hours to just lie and listen to music. Let your mind wander and forget all about your work and your to-do lists.

You can also have fun by searching for some new music to listen to. Go to Youtube and search for some 50s hits or Italian music. You might find some new favorites!

7. Bake or meal prep

Cooking and baking are both fun and useful activities. Have you been wanting to bake something for a long time? Now is a great chance! Make an old favorite or try something new.

If you want, you can also meal prep for the next week. That will save some time next week and you can make sure you have something healthy for lunch every day.

8. Do yoga

If you haven’t yet tried yoga, you definitely should do it now. There’s a reason why so many people like to do yoga. It’s relaxing and it helps you feel connected. In other words, it’s the perfect form of self-care.

If you haven’t done yoga before, you can start by watching this video.

9. Take a bath and do skin care

Taking a bath is definitely the central point of a self-care weekend. It’s the perfect way to relax and let your worries fade away. Take your time and sit in the bath for as long as you want. After that, you might want to do your complete skin care routine and watch your favorite show.

If you don’t have a bathtub, no worries, a long hot shower will work just fine.

10. Go to a museum

How often do you go to museums? Probably not that often. Going to a museum gives you some time by yourself and it might inspire you in your own work or life.

If you’re feeling adventurous, go to a less-known museum that doesn’t sound like your cup of tea. Who knows, you might be surprised!

11. Declutter your closets

This may not be everyone’s idea of self-care, but in case you are someone who likes to organize things and throw things away, this one is for you.

Go through your closets and cabinets and get rid of anything you no longer need and make sure that everything that you keep is nicely organized.

12. Go to a park

Sitting in a park and looking at people passing by is one of the blessings in life. Just enjoy the day and think about life. Maybe read a book or even listen to some music.

Going to a park is always a great idea if you want to get away from it all for a while.

13. Take photos

Everyone likes to take pictures, but most people don’t take time to go out just for the sake of photography. It’s a nice little thing to do by yourself and you get something to remember the day by.

Go to some beautiful location to take some pictures, or if you want, just stay at home and take some selfies.

14. Come up with new affirmations

Affirmations can boost your confidence and make you feel better about yourself. Why not spend some time trying to find some good affirmations that fit your goals? Or maybe come up with completely new ones yourself?

This will only take a few minutes, but the affirmations will be useful later on too!

15. Call a friend you haven’t talked with in a while

Do you have an old friend you haven’t heard from in a while? Why not give them a call (or send them a message) and catch up? It’s always a good idea to talk and laugh with your friends.

Calling relatives, such as your grandparents, is also a good idea. And they will for sure appreciate your call!

16. Watch your childhood favorite series

What was your favorite TV series when you were 12 or 15? Go down the memory lane by watching some old favorites. It’s definitely nostalgic and it’s good to watch something not so serious every once in a while.

Sometimes it’s nice to watch a movie that you haven’t seen since you were 7. It might be completely different than how you remember it, but that just makes it more fun to watch it.
