12 Fun Summer Goals That Will Help You Get More Out of Life
Summer is the most wonderful time of the year and you need to spend your time well. While I am all about productivity and working for your goals, nothing is as important as enjoying your life. To help you get more out of your summer, I’ve created this list of summer goals.
They will help you make your summer much more fun and enjoyable. You might learn some useful skills too!
Go through this list of ideas and choose the goals that sound best to you. You can choose only one or two goals or even more, whatever works for you.
Make sure to make your new summer goals achievable so that you don’t forget about them a couple of days later.
Why you really need to set summer goals
Setting new goals is always a good idea if you ask me. Whether big or small, they can take you closer to the life of your dreams.
Many people have grand plans for summer, but then fail to make most of them come true. It’s not fun to look back in September and realize that you wasted your summer online or never bothered to go anywhere after work.
This summer, you need to get more experiences and enjoy your life more. Even if you don’t feel like doing anything after work, just go out and let summer energize you. I assure you it will be worth it.
Summer goals will help you do more and explore what the world has to offer. They’ll help you find more things to do and enjoy. That’s why you definitely need them.
Now, let’s get to the goals you’ll set for this summer!
1. Listen to new kinds of music
If you asked me what is my favorite band, I’d have a hard time answering. There are so many great bands out there. It’s also really hard to pick your favorite genre, isn’t it?
But this just proves that there’s a lot of amazing music out there. One wonderful way to spend your time in summer is to just lie down, close your eyes, and listen to new music. Let the summer breeze dance in your hair while you forget about the rest of the world and just take a moment for yourself.
2. Start hiking
You should spend a lot of time outside when it’s warm and nice. One great way to do it is to go hiking. It’s a fun way to see new places and go on little adventures.
Of course, you’ll also get some exercise and it’s good for your mind too. Go on hikes regularly this summer and make sure to at least sometimes go to places you haven’t seen before.
3. Delete your social media apps (at least for a while)
We all know that social media isn’t very good for us. Of course, you can learn new things on social media and connect with people. That’s all good. But if you’ve never taken a break from social media, do you really know what kind of an effect it has on you?
Take a break from Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and any other apps you use regularly. Spend the time doing things you’ve meant to do but haven’t got around to, like reading or writing.
I am currently taking a break from social media and it has helped me immensely. I feel much better and have time to do things that really matter.
If you are having a very hard time staying away from social media, just find something new and fun to do. It will absolutely be worth it.
4. Visit a new place once a week
Summer is the best time of the year to do some exploring! Visiting new places is always fun and it’s a great way to make some memories, either alone or with a friend.
Start going to places you’ve never been to before every week. You can go for a walk in a different part of the town or go to a new restaurant. If you feel like some place might be worth checking out, just go and see what it’s about!

5. Grow your own herbs
It’s fun to grow things, especially if you can eat them later. If you’re not much of a gardener or a plant expert, start by growing some herbs. For example, basil and parsley are perfect for your windowsill and they are not difficult to take care of.
Go pick up a few herbs for the summer and see if plants are your thing! Don’t forget to eat them often because there will quickly be more than you need.
6. Have movie nights
Since summer is the time to do fun things, why not watch some movies? Hosting movie nights for your friends or simply having a peaceful movie marathon with yourself and a bowl of popcorn is always a good idea.
This is a wonderful opportunity to see those movies you’ve been meaning to watch for years. Of course, you can also watch some old favorites or something brand new.
7. Go to new events once a week
In summer, there seem to be countless events every week, no matter where you live. Why not take advantage of that and go check them out?
Going to fairs, exhibitions, and stand-up shows will make you happier and you might even meet new people. There are plenty of free events to choose from if you want to save money, although splurging every once in a while is totally ok.
8. Learn to make your favorite food very well
Do you always order the same pasta dish at the restaurant? Do you love your aunt’s cheesecake?
Whatever your favorite food is, you should learn to make it well. Even if it’s normally a restaurant dish, you can still learn to make it at home. And if you already know how to make your favorite dish, why not dig through a cookbook and find some new favorites?
9. Write a book
This one is definitely a bigger goal, but it still deserves to be on the list.
I’ve heard so many people say they want to write a book or they wish they’d finished the book they started writing a long time ago. It’s sad that people give up on their goals and if writing a book is a dream of yours, I encourage you to work on it this summer.
Writing a whole book, especially your first one, will likely take much longer than three months. But you can get a lot done during these months. You can outline your story and work on the characters. At the very least you can brainstorm.
Even working only half an hour a week on your story will take you forward.
10. Create new traditions with your friends
If you have friends who like to do new things and prepare parties, trips, or other events, you should definitely create new traditions. They don’t have to be big or require much preparation.
You could simply decide to have a barbecue every June, go on a short road trip in July, or have a cake day in August, when you just eat cake all day (I won’t judge).
If you don’t have friends who would like to do these kinds of things, don’t worry. You can always have your own traditions and I must say, they are much easier to stick to.
11. Go to concerts
If you love music, you should go to concerts! Whether big or small, they can be unforgettable and well worth the money.
Go to at least a couple of concerts this summer. Perhaps you want to see some of your favorite bands perform, but it can also be fun to go see a band you know nothing about. You might even find a new favorite!
12. Learn to play the ukulele
I myself can only play one simple children’s song on the piano (and that’s on a good day), but if you have been thinking about picking up an instrument, why not just do it?
The ukulele is a great first instrument since it’s one of the easiest ones to learn to play. And it sounds really nice too. If you want to learn to play the ukulele (or an instrument of your choice), set a goal to learn at least the basics this summer.
